LORRAINE BRACCO

ACTRESS

"GOOD FELLAS", "SOPRANOS"

Lorraine Bracco grew up in Hicksville, Long Island (NY), A feisty, intelligent leading lady of the 1980s and 90s who formerly worked as a model in Paris and as a deejay for Europe's Radio Luxembourg. Bracco made an isolated screen debut in the French production "Duos sur Canape" (1979), but her acting career did not take off until she returned to the USA. She excels at playing resilient women, as in "Someone To Watch Over Me" (1987)--in which she delivers an effective upper-cut to the jaw of philandering husband Tom Berenger--and "GoodFellas" (1990), for which her portrayal of mob wife Karen Hill earned her an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress. Since then, Bracco has had her talents misused in unremarkable films such as "Medicine Man" (1992), in which she played a "New Yawk" doctor, and the generic "Traces of Red" (1992), playing a hard-bitten femme fatale. She just completed RIDING IN CARS WITH BOYS, directed by Penny Marshall, where she plays Drew Barrymore's mother.

Lorraine Bracco was nominated for the 2001 Emmy® Award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role as Dr. Jennifer Melfi on HBO's original hit series, THE SOPRANOS. Bracco has also been nominated for the 2001 Golden Globe® award for best actress in a leading role - drama series.
